After I positioned this big rock slab a year ago, I used to be able to get up it pretty regularly. But it's got more and more impossible recently. If I use one of the rock kickers I can do it easily and even get airborne over the top (!) but doing RSG at the overhung bottom edge, I end up sliding back or perched precariously on the bashplate. The rock here (Bellthorpe Andesite) is essentially a granite sitting in clay, so there's a thick clay-ish layer on the surface. With the conditions being so wet now for so long, the surface is getting smoother and more polished. So I got a bolster chisel and hammer, and have chiselled away most of the clay and roughened the surface. It's going to be very interesting to see if it makes a difference! I'll keep you posted.
