Is an Electric Trials bike a good option as a second bike? This is a reply to @treesner. Sorry if its too late for your decision making Chris, but it literally took me 3 attempts each time I always left something out. I think its a very important discussion. I don't believe there is enough real discussion around it. Here I am covering a whole heap of questions that I am sure others are going to ask. So I figured I would respond to more than just you. I hope I answered your questions. Let me know if I have missed the mark. My thoughts for you Chris: For you specifically it is likely a good option to keep along side an ICE bike. To remove the barriers to practice. You already have a very high level of skill, you will have the other bikes to keep the skills sharp. Also I think you are more Hard Enduro oriented and if that is the case you are not needing the seriously refined clutch skills in relation to stopping the bike as much as you do in Trials purely. I did forget to answer your question on what can be practiced on the EM (I took this as you meaning in a trials focus) that is not requiring the clutch side of things. Honestly there is not much. Others may disagree. But I use the clutch sooo much that unless the engine was off, there isn't much that a trials rider can practice where it wouldn't have some effect. I think it will bias you to throttle action, if you aren't already using the clutch to insane levels. For everyone else: - If you are lower level rider happy to stay on the throttle and not learn the lift etc - They are great! - If you want to learn those lift techniques and more - They aren't as good and will make learning harder. - If you have reached high skill level you will be able to adapt to a good level on the E bikes, but I think you will be riding lower than your capable of. For me personally: I am yet to enjoy riding one. If they forced all competition to electric tomorrow, I'd stop riding events and do my own "events". When they meet the feel and capability of an ICE bike I'd pay double for it so I can access so much more riding. For now I know I would have to take a good step backwards on one. For me I find the same on enduro bikes. I feel hindered by them. There are things I want to do but the bike won't suit it. But that is what I enjoy not you. ULTIMATELY make the choice that suits you. What are your thoughts, let us all know below!
