I had a good illustration of the effect of flywheel inertia. Something I've only really thought about since getting into trials. The previous owner of my Vertigo had removed the extra flywheel weight (which I believe comes stock with the bike). He gave it to me last week, and I fitted it today and had a short test ride. Just poking around it felt much the same, but when I did some basic intro RSG drills (on flat ground, separating out the actions) the difference was marked. With the same amount of RPM the front lifted far more energetically than before. So much so that I almost looped it out once, and I never do that! And having a couple of runs over the big pile of rocks we call Mt Bellthorpe, it hangs onto the grunt for longer over the uphill lumps. And the flywheel weight makes it even more stall proof, which is pretty amazing as the Vertigo already felt like a diesel tractor when lugging. I like it.
